Hey everybody! its my fifteenth day out here on the Jersey Shore, and there is a major thunderstorm goin on right now so i find my self taking time out of my Job hunt to sit down a blog a lil bit. This summer so far has been amazing this group of people this year in OC has been a blessing in my life and a true pleasure to be around. Its fun to meet and hang out with the friends and disciples of my close friends from last summer. We have been having an awesome time together in fellowship, and one of my favorite memories so far has been our student led prayer times. They are a time were we as a group get together and just cry out to God and ask him for big things. They have been moving and intense times in prayer and the Lord is going to honor the prayers of His people.
As the title of this Blog says this week is titled "Thirsting to know Him" which is a week for us as a project to take a time out from the craziness of arriving and meeting 80 or so new people and just focus on the Lord.

"As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God."

This verse has become my heart for this week, i want a deep thirst for God that can only be quenched by the living God and walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit everyday. I pray that this week would give everyone a thirst and that it will not just last the rest of this summer but until we see Him face to face.
I have been reading a book I got at The Gospel Coalition Confrence called The Bookends of the Christian Life Written by two men named Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington. I just finished reading about the First Bookend which is "The Righteousness of Christ" It has been a challaenging read thus far and really showed me a lot of areas in my life where i need to see Christ as fully sufficient instead of leaning on self and my own abilities.

"But its not enough to merely see the righteousness of Christ as all-sufficient; we must see it as all-suficient for us. Jesus was perfecty obedient in our place, as our substitute. Have we lacked purity? Jesus was pure in our place. Have we lack patience? Jesus was patient in our place. In every area where we see failure and sin, Jesus was successful at providing a perfect obedience that's credited to us."
~The Bookends of the Christian Life, pg. 70~

Self-righteousness creeps into our lives and makes us lean on our own abilities instead of what Christ has already done. That can lead to sin and that brings on guilt for what we have done and that is not where the righteousness of Christ should lead you either. If you know and have a relationship with Jesus Christ rely on what He has already done He has put his righteousness on you and you are no longer seen as sinful. let him satisfy. If you do not have a personal realtionship with Jesus you can have it any time you wan you just need to understand that we are all sinful and that what Jesus did on the cross paid for your sin and ask through faith (prayer) for Jesus to come into your life and forgive you of your sins and ask him to lead your life instead of doing it on your own. Take on the righteousness of Christ and stop trying to do it on your own, check this out two this lays it out well. Finally, made it here it here after a what felt like forever since I had been accepted and then the long car ride from Ohio all the way out to the east coast. It was strange coming over the bridge onto the island it felt as if I had never left Ocean City. Last year was an amazing experience here in Ocean City with the 08 crew, and i am excited to see what the Lord does this summer through this whole new group of people. It has been awesome to meet all of these new people and learn about what God has done in their lives and how the Lord has brought them here. One of the best stories is from 2 brothers from the University of Illinois (Jaron and Dane) who are both here on project. But only couple months ago they had no idea how they would raise the support to get here. Jaron went on a trip out to Southern California while out there he went to a taping of a lil show we like to call "The Price is Right", you can see where this story is going...he made it up to contestants row and won his bid got up on stage won his game and won enough mony on The Price is Right to fully support his and his brothers trip here for the summer!!! How amazing is that!!! The Lord works in weird and awesome, and sometimes funny ways to get what he wants accomplished. So if you find the time through out the week pray that the Lord would continue to build the community here in Ocean City, NJ and that we would grow deeper in our relationships with oneanother. I pray that you have an awesome week and the that you trust in the Lord more and more.

I am in my third home The A.C. Buehler Library on the beautiful campus of Elmhurst College. Yester i found out that Residence Life was going to kick me and 70 of my fellow juniors off campus for our senior year. At first i was rather upset at my new homelessness but i remembered that last time i checked Jesus was still in Control. And i remembered of Gods promise of great works in the lives of his Children (Ephesians 2:10). God has Good works for us to do and whether or not they are in our plan God wants us to do them, its not like you give God a Contract and ask him to sign it, its the other way around.

Speaking of doing God's work 33 other elmhurst students and I will be heading down to Panama City Beach, Florida to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our fellow college students from all around the country who are down the to party. This will be my third time going and i am still just as excited as i was my first time going down there. If you could please pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare the hearts of the people that we will meet down there and also for Boldness for all the students that will be down there.

Never Let the Gospel Get Smaller

Here is a simple exhortation that I have been trying to implement in our family:

Seek to see and feel the gospel as bigger as years go by rather than smaller.

Our temptation is to think that the gospel is for beginners and then we go on to greater things. But the real challenge is to see the gospel as the greatest thing—and getting greater all the time.

The Gospel gets bigger when, in your heart,

grace gets bigger;
Christ gets greater;
his death gets more wonderful;
his resurrection gets more astonishing;
the work of the Spirit gets mightier;
the power of the gospel gets more pervasive;
its global extent gets wider;
your own sin gets uglier;
the devil gets more evil;
the gospel's roots in eternity go deeper;
its connections with everything in the Bible and in the world get stronger;
and the magnitude of its celebration in eternity gets louder.

So keep this in mind: Never let the gospel get smaller in your heart.

Pray that it won’t. Read solid books on it. Sing about it. Tell someone about it who is ignorant or unsure about it.

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel.... For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

So dont let the gospel get small. Live it and love its truth.

From an essay by D.A. Carson on "The Biblical Gospel" (in For Such a Time as This: Perspectives on Evangelicalism, Past, Present and Future, ed. Steve Brady and Harold Rowdon [London: Evangelical Alliance, 1986], p. 83):

"Pundits have often noted that many in the Western world have become single-issue people. The church is not immune from such influences. The result is that many Christians assume the gospel (often, regrettably, some form of the ‘simple gospel’) but are passionate about something on the relative periphery: abortion, poverty, forms of worship, cultural decay, ecology, overpopulation, pornography, family breakdown, and much more. By labelling these complex subjects ‘relatively peripheral’ I open myself to attack from as many quarters as there are subjects on the list. For example, some of those whose every thought is shaded green will not be convinced that the ecological problems we face are peripheral to human survival. But I remain quite unrepentant. From a biblical-theological perspective, these challenges, as serious as they are, are reflections of the still deeper problem—our odious alienation from God. If we tackle these problems without tackling what is central, we are merely playing around with symptoms. This is no excuse for Christians not to get involved in these and many other issues. The point is that in all our efforts to address painful and complex societal problems, we must do so from the centre, out of a profound passion for the gospel. This is for us both a creedal necessity and a strategic choice. It is a creedal necessity because this gospel alone prepares men and women for eternity, for meeting our Maker—and all problems are relativized in the contemplation of the cross, the final judgement, and eternity. It is a strategic choice because we are persuaded that the gospel, comprehensively preached in the power of the Spirit, will do more to transform men and women, not least their attitudes, than anything else in the world."

Well summer Project is over and i am finally getting over the deep depression I was in afterwards. :) just kidding...but seriously. I am in my Second week of School here at Elmhurst and God is already doing crazy things here and in my own personal life. I am undergoing a lot of personal Change and i am trusting the Lord with it and leaving it all up to him. At Elmhurst, God has been showing up like CRAZY!!!! Our prayer for this summer was for Illinois hall would be full for our Thursday night meetings for Campus Crusade, And well as always the Lord was faithful and responded by doing just that so Praise The Lord!!! I wish i had more time to Focus my Thoughts but i am in a rush between Classes Thanks for reading and Check back for more.

His Kingdom Come: Pursuing Glory of God's Kingdom

Well.... Staff is gone. 110 college students living in an Inn on the Jersey shore by themselves. And it has been amazing to see how everyone has really embraced their roles here on project and stepped up to lead this project and really pursue God as a community of believers. All of us were given a "Project Job" along with our other part-time Jobs. I am an Action Group Leader which means that i am leading a bible study and I disciple the three other guys in my bible Study. It is amazing to think that God would entrust me with these guys and it is such a huge honor and responsibility , so prayer for would be much appreciated.
Our student leadership team which consists of three guys and three girls created a theme for the rest of this summer. The theme is "His Kingdom Come: Pursuing Glory of God's Kingdom" and the theme verse is:

"They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all men may know of your .mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdomYour kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made."
~Psalm 145:11-13~

So this summer as a Project we will be pursuing God's kingdom here on earth. This past weeks them was "When God Reigns: His Kingdom Revealed" it was all about approaching the throne of God with confidence. 2 Corinthians 3: 4-6 talks of the confidence we have through Christ to approach God. The confidence we have through Christ should propel us to boldness in our walks with God, especially when it comes to ministry. So that is one thing I am learning and will be trying to bring back to Elmhurst is to Trust God with big things, one night during our meetings our speaker challenged us to think in a way were when we get to Heaven and talk to God instead of Him saying "Why did you trust me with so little?" instead it being "Why did you trust me with so much?" and I dont think God would really say that because he can handle it all but i think that is a good way to go about life. God is huge and amazing and trusting him with everything is hard but He will take care of it all. So i am gonna try to trust God with every part of my life and i would invite you, to look at what you could trust god with maybe something you cant let go of or something you are fearing.

Yes, I am still alive. Contrary to the popular belief. And I am having the best time in my life. I cant think of a point in life where i have been having a better time and project is only half way finished. So whats been goin on????
Well the last time I Blogged we were entering "All for One" week. Which was an amazing week here on project where we grew closer together as an entire group. We really grew alot as one and i made some great friends during that week. Work has been interesting... I have actually learned to have some fun at work but it is usually just when my friend Matt and i Get to work together in the grill area. We play some fun games and even announce everything that is going on as radio show guys with goofy voices which helps the time pass. Here on project we just finished "World Vision" week. And well......It was AMAZING!!!! God has changed my view of not just the World but of him and how big his plan for this planet is. And I want to be apart of that and God has shown me this week how we are called to be sent into the world, whether that be Chicago or Rome, God is calling us to reach the Lost in this world and i cant think of a better Job.

So this is the last week that the staff is gonna be here. We get to run the project as students....AHHHH!! Crazy! I am soooo Excited but at the same time super nervous. We all got our Jobs this past week and we finally got to break the code of silence and share them with each other. My Project Job is.... Action Group Leader! I get to take over our action Group I will be leading our Bible study and Discipling all the guys in that study. I am really excited about it because the Guys are awesome!! and It is what i will be doing in the fall at Elmhurst College. This project is just getting started and i am so Excited to see where the Lord takes it. Jesus is Awesome!

Dead Giants

Wow is the only Thing I can say about killing the Giants week. It was an amazing week filled with lots of people trusting in God and going out in faith to see God use them. At the beginning of the week we as a Group set the Goal of sharing the Gospel with 5079 People!! It was a huge number that the staff team placed on the chest of an even larger wood and cardboard giant in the Gym of Ocean City Baptist Church where we all attend church. So we had a physical reminder of our Giant number. Well last night all the results were tallied. The stats were, Initiated Conversations[IC](people we asked to do are survey with and got to the survey with.), Gospel Conversations[GC] (people who heard the Gospel, Check last weeks blog to see what we shared), and People who accepted Christ (people who indicated a decision to trust there lives to Christ). So here are the results:

IC’s- over 11,000

GC- 5,094

People who put there faith in Jesus Christ- 203

PRAISE THE LORD!! All this in just one week!! God is sooooo Big. We defeated our Giant!! As of Saturday morning we had to have 1200 GC’s to reach our goal by 9pm Saturday which was the time we set it one week ago. So in less than 24 hours 1200 people heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is amazing just to look at the numbers in general, but to think that each number represents a mother, father, son, daughter, etc. it is just amazing to think of all the lives that were touched this week. And that Giant that the Staff spent so much time making was absolutely destroyed we broke it down last night after we found out we reached our goal. It was just a great physical representation of what we had gone through that week. We used a ladder as a battering ram to knock it over and my friend, Edmund’s face after he knocked it over was one of complete victory and triumph. It was such a long week, our theme for the week was “Spend and be Spent” I am having a hard time finding a point in life when I have been so exhausted as right now. Between Work and sharing and my new Nightwatchman job I am absolutely beat, and really ready just to sleep. God showed up in a big way in Ocean City, New Jersey this week. I cant wait to see what else he has in store for the rest of this summer. God is so amazing and really showed me how strong and perfect he is and that I just need to Rely on his Strength in my weakness and when I have strength to get through the day. I need to depend more on his strength and less on my own and that is just part of my process as a Christ follower is depending on him completely for all of my needs and God has yet again given me something to work on. Soooo this is my last blog til next week the internet is going to be shut down for the week to help build community. It is Killing the Giants Week!!! we are going for it in Evangelism for one whole week here in Ocean City, New Jersey. We want evangelism to get outta hand on the boardwalk and beach and the whole city. Read Every Word!

This maybe your first time hearing this and if something doesn't make since or if you prayed the prayer at the end give me a call or e-mail me (Cencia@Elmhurst.edu, (614)315-1942). I hope you will take some time to read through this because we are talking about eternity whether or not you agree with me or not its eternity we are talking about. We have a need for a Savior we all need one, no good works (Church, volunteering, not drinking) can reconcile us to God only through Jesus Christ can we Experience eternity with God. I am not talking about being perfect because i am far from that, and honestly i have never met a perfect person and if you know one you probably don't know them that well. God knows we aren't perfect thats why he came to us. I want to talk about this with you and share this with you because i love you :) So Please be praying for the project this week we are trusting God to let us have 5079 Gospel conversations this week and i Personally am trusting God to have 35. Hello all Welcome back! and thanks for visiting! i have found the best place to blog, journal, and have a Quite Time out on the back porch at night I can here the ocean, its great! hope all of you are having a great summer. My summer is going amazing! God is doing amazing things here in Ocean City, New Jersey. I just have some time to let you know what God is teaching me as i finished up 2 Corinthians today and all that he has taught me during it:

Chapter 11:30
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.

Chapter 12:1-10
To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

There are things i am terrible at and things that i struggle with, and in these weaknesses God is Strong. God has taught me that through all my faults in strugles that as it says in verse 9 "My Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfect in weakness" God's Power is made perfect in my weakness. Whenever i over come something i am dealing with it is not because i am good or i did it under my own power but it was only through the power of God. So right now as Paul wrote in Verse 10 " That is why, for Christ's Sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am Strong.

So in Conclusion of my study of 2 Corinthians I find my self with with new breath breathing fresher air i would say. God has shown me that my identity is in Christ and that i dont need to look to other people or things to find out who i am and what i am good at. Also that because i am in Christ that I am Strong even through my weaknesses and in my weaknesses that is where God shows how powerful he is not in my gifts that come naturally to me but in the things that i struggle and find difficult or challenging. All Glory be To God.

My Computer is Healed!!

Some how some way God has completely healed my computer! I dunno why or how but my Computer all of the sudden works and God is the only one I can thank. So the First 2 days of work have been completed and well .... its McDonalds. I really am not having the best time at work but I have have some good conversations with a few of my co-workers. So just be praying for good conversations and just that God would give me some joy or peace about working there for the rest of the summer because to be honest with you I am not to excited about it.

God has been teaching me a lot over just my first few weeks here. I have come to realize that i cannot find my Identity and who i am in anyone else but Jesus Christ. Often times I believe we as humans often look to other people or things to find their identity and who we are as people. As a Christian I should not be looking to other people to find out who I am.

"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! I have been doing a study on 2 Corinthians sooo if i make more references deal with me I have been meditating on it alot as of lately, sooo back on Track, We are all dead and In Christ we have life so I should live for him. And since I am in Christ I should also be his ambassador (v.20) and thats why i am here, to be obedient to Christ and try to be his ambassador in Ocean City, NJ and in turn God is teaching me to live for him. And To live in his Death, which brings forgiveness of Sins, and resurrection, which brings eternal life. God is Good and has blessed me with alot and continues to poor out his blessings on me and i am eternally greatful. (second 2 Corinthians reference, just think about this one)

"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

I am officially in Ocean City, NJ!!! It is great, I love being around all these great people in a place filled with God's grace. It is amazing. One thing God has taught me this week is the he doesn't really care about our plans. I can make as many plans as i want for this summer and lets say for example where i am gonna work and God is gonna put me where he wants me. So here it comes my place of employment for this summer is.......drum roll.........McDonalds!!!! I am not to excited but it will be a good time. I am finding it hard to find time to blog but hopefully as things calm down it will get better and i will find more time to keep you all informed. I hope you all are having great summers and that you remember that God love you and thats all that matters.

Well Team, it looks like the house has fallen through :(. Due to some sketch stuff with the Landlord it is not looking promising so Fourth Floor Stanger. Not sad but not nearly as exciting. The beginning of this summer has been Crazy! I went down to beautiful Athens, Ohio to visit the great people of Ohio university! It was a blast, me and my friend Drew decided that it is mouth Ecstasy to say "Shut Up!" with a southern accent. The NCAA Lacrosse semi-final Games were on Saturday in which Syracuse defeated Virginia advancing to play Johns Hopkins who pulled an amazing upset over heavily favored Duke, the two play Memorial Day for the National Title in New England. Scott Dixon won the Indy 500, which my beautiful girlfriend was at and I was extremely Jealous. Although she did Call and then proceeded to hold the phone up as the cars Flew by and it was amazing and I am totally going next year. I had a cook out with Family today and it was a blast, I love my Family SOOOO much they are the best although goofy i wouldn't ask for it any other way. While playing Basketball i had an EPIC sportscenter Top 10 shot over my Uncle Pat, it was great(he wanted a mention in the Blog, not sure if thats what he wanted :)) I am now home only hours from the beginning of an amazing summer in Ocean City, New Jersey. I have a range of emotions that fluctuate from Pure excitement and Joy to thoughts of "Andy, what are you thinking". But God is in Control and He will be goin with me so I am trying not to worry.

Over the past month or so one thing that has really been on my mind is God's Love for me and for all the people here on earth. Maybe thats because I am about to go on summer project to try my best to share God's awesome love with the people i will be living, working and coming in contact with during the summer. But it is amazing to think of all the things that I have done in my life and all the times i have messed up and to think of the love that God has for me and for you is just mind blowing. Life is so much more tolerable when i think about God's love.

A verse that reminds me of God's Love:

So Live. Life can be hard sometimes and I can promise you hard times with much more confidence than I can Good times, trust me I know. But it is SOOOOOOO worth it! God gave us a life for a reason you were not created for no reason. He loves us more than anything on earth and we cant be separated from that. Life is rough sometimes but God wont put us in any situation we cant handle and He will be by our side while we go through it. We've got the God of the Universe on our side so we cant complain :)

Well, what an amazing week!! This past week i have felt an array of emotions and all of this just week before classes are even over. One thing I have learned is that I am one of the biggest procrastinators on God's green earth. I will find anything to do except my homework and yet it all manages to get done and i get pretty good grades on it all to, so praise be to God for that.
The cavs lost. I am sad about that, and a lil nervous that LeBron may not be coming back to Cleveland, I dunno what I would do. and thats enough on that.

Well as I am sitting here writing this i am exactly one week away from summer project!!!!! SOOOOO exciting!!!! yet so sad, I have to say goodbye to my girlfriend, friends here at school, friends at home, and my family which is not going to easy by any stretch of the imagination. Yet there is an excitement to it, i get to move to the east coast for 3 months and serve the Lord. There isn't much else I would rather do with my summer. I am excited to meet new people and share my Savior with people around Ocean City, New Jersey.

School is winding down and I think me and five of my other friends are gonna get a house in Elmhurst to live at next year and well....i am super excited! Six Christian guys living together in great community. This past week God has taught me the ultimate importance of brotherhood and fellowship with Guys and especially Christian guys. Guys who u can just be real with and have fun with. I am gonna miss all my Guys here at Elmhurst this summer but look forward to meeting some new guys this summer.

Yesterday was my Birthday! I got to celebrate my 20 years on this earth with my amazing girlfriend in beautiful downtown Chicago. We went everywhere the Sears Tower, Art Institute, Michigan Ave., Navy Pier, and Millennium Park. I cant remember having so much fun while just hanging out with one other person. I even got to try sushi which i dunno if i am ever gonna do again. But it was one of my best birthdays ever and i am so glad i got to do it. I can't thank my Girlfriend Enough it was amazing to spend one of my last days here with her, I am gonna miss her a lot.
